Gallery KOCHI occupies a renovated building that once housed a yudofu restaurant. It was designed to make the most of the crape myrtle rooted on this site. The interior and garden are gently connected, and the changing seasons can also be viewed from the tea room.
In the garden, stones brought from Shiga are arranged around a monolith weighing approximately four metric tons. Their sequence evokes the flow of water, creating a landscape in which architecture, garden, light, and contemporary art quietly resonate.
To sense not only the artworks but also the garden, architecture, and changing light as a single experience—this is the space of Gallery KOCHI.

Centered on contemporary art, Salon KOCHI brings together the garden, architecture, light, and the aesthetics of Japanese culture.
We value all of these as a single cultural experience: not only viewing the artworks, but also moving through the space, sensing the garden, and spending time in conversation.
Exhibitions at Salon KOCHI are usually presented as private viewings by reservation only. The viewing format may vary depending on the exhibition.

A new cultural hub for art and aesthetics,
emerging in a secluded corner of Gion.
KOCHI 東風 is a cultural and artistic hub centered on contemporary art, located in a corner of Maruyama Park beside Yasaka Shrine, in the eastern part of Gion, Kyoto.
Grounded in respect for the culture and aesthetics passed down in Kyoto, it connects contemporary art, architecture, the garden, light, and dialogue between people as one cultural experience.
What we value is not limited to exhibiting artworks. We seek to convey with care not only the works themselves, but also the ideas and contexts behind them and the artists’ perspectives, creating a place where each visitor can engage with the works through their own sensibility and where new discoveries and conversations can emerge.
Gallery KOCHI will introduce artists active in Japan, China, Korea, and beyond, and will present exhibitions unconstrained by genre, spanning painting, sculpture, installation, and more.
The adjoining Salon KOCHI brings together the garden, architecture, Japanese culture, and contemporary art from a broader perspective, presenting exhibitions and cultural programs that invite visitors to experience the space itself.
Gallery KOCHI and Salon KOCHI.
Through these two distinct spaces, we create a cultural and artistic experience that encompasses not only viewing artworks, but also being present in the place, looking out over the garden, speaking with others, and spending time there.
From Kyoto to Asia, and onward to the world.
Rather than reproducing tradition as it is, KOCHI 東風 seeks to carry its essential aesthetics into the present and give rise to a new cultural wind.
Operated by AND ART株式会社
Through exhibition planning, collaboration with artists and galleries, public relations, and management of the space, the company is responsible for developing and communicating KOCHI’s cultural value.
